State wise Brahmin population in India
Brahmins are considered on top of the Hindu caste hierarchy. As per the census 2011, the total brahmin population in India is around 5%, which is around 6.5 crores. Brahmins are the most widely spread castes in India with a significant presence in every state of the country.
Brahmins are the most prosperous social group in the country with a very good representation in central and state governments. Indian bureaucracy is dominated by Brahmins.
The brahmin population is mostly concentrated in the Northern part of the country. Uttar Pradesh has the largest brahmin population in the country with almost a third of the total population. The second and third place is occupied by Bihar and Maharastra respectively.
